Day 01 USHUAIA, ARGENTINA
Embark in the afternoon on our cruise ship to Antarctica. Meet you Expedition leader and staff for a briefing once you start your sail from the famous Beagle Channel and Mackinlay Pass in Ushuaia, Argentina.
Day 2 & 3 CROSS THE DRAKE PASSAGE, SOUTHBOUND
Sail across the Drake Passage, an Antarctic convergence of cold Antarctic Ocean and warmer Atlantic Ocean waters. Learn about the navigation, watch whales and enjoy the marine and bird life while crossing this passage. The sightings of icebergs and Snow Mountains will mean that we have reached the South Shetland Islands. Enjoy the educational lectures from the naturalists as you make your first landing ashore on Day 3 to see the Penguins and the seals.
Day 4 to 8 SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS & ANTARCTIC PENINSULA
Enjoy the next four days exploring aboard your zodiac boats with accompanying naturalist amazing sights of Antarctica’s South Shetland Islands -a haven for penguins, seals.
Sail through the narrow passage to Deception Island to swim in the hot springs of Pendulum Cove. Visit King George Island, the largest of the South Shetland Islands, features colonies of nesting Adélie and Chinstrap Penguins, Kelp Gulls, Blue-eyed Cormorants, Antarctic Terns and Southern Giant Petrels and is home to scientific bases of many different countries. Macaroni, Chinstrap and Gentoo Penguins as well as elephant seals await you at Livingston Island. You will have plenty of time to explore this white continent’s amazing scenery, a pristine wilderness of snow, ice, mountains and waterways, and an incredible wide variety of wildlife. Apart from penguins and seabirds you are very likely to see Weddell, crab eater and leopard seals as well as Minke, killer (orca) and humpback whales at close range.
Depending on ice conditions, your captain will decide if your cruise ship can navigate to beautiful waterways of the Gerlache Strait, the Neumayer Channel, and the Lemaire Channel, the latter are narrow passages between towering rock faces and spectacular glaciers. Possible landing sites may include Paradise Bay.
Day 9 & 10 CROSS THE DRAKE PASSAGE, NORTHBOUND
We head back to Ushuaia crossing once again the Drake Passage and searching for whales and seabirds with your knowledgeable naturalists.
Day 11 ARRIVE IN USHUAIA
Arrive back in Ushuaia port in the morning. Disembark your cruise ship after breakfast taking home with you an everlasting memory of this vast snow covered continent and its mesmerizing landscapes and wilderness.
